Kicheche Mara Camp is a classic luxury camp in a private area in the bush just outside the Masai Mara, and Kicheche is not a place everyone has heard of for your Safari holiday in Kenya.

This gives it an immediate advantage, because one of the problems on a safari to the Masai Mara seems to be the fact that there are other people on safari as well, and wherever you go, they seem to turn up as well.

The Kicheche Mara Camp is well hidden amongst Euclea and African Olives, in an area well known for its prolific wildlife, so you need to be aware that as it is a camp, there are no walls or fences, so animals can and do pass through the camp, so your game viewing starts from the camp itself.

In terms of how you will eat and sleep under these circumstances, then the answer is extremely well, if a little rustically.

It is a canvas bush camp with eleven spacious east African style tents which look out onto the grassy plains. Kicheche Mara Camp uses alternative sources of energy like solar power and candlelight which adds to its rustic appeal. It would be fair to warn you that if you need the mod cons of a lodge then perhaps Kicheche may not be for you.

Each tent has an ensuite bathroom with a safari bucket type of shower. This probably means the water will be heated in the early evening over a fire, to be ready for your return from an evening Game Drive. This means your evening shower will be jolly hot, as you pull the chain that releases the water, but in the morning you should be prepared for a much cooler experience.

If however your concern is having to walk around an open camp at night to visit the bathroom, and risk being eaten by a lion, you have no cause to worry, as everything you need will be in your tent!! The en-suite private bathrooms have a central dressing area and separate compartments for shower and toilet.

In any case the staff of Kicheche will not allow you to leave your tent at any time without an escort because wild animals have the right of way at all times!!

Outside your tent is a veranda with comfortable canvas chairs, and hammocks slung beneath the trees.

There is a noisy nightlife, but it is the African Bush!!

Although there is a dining tent, most meals are eaten outdoors, and there is a separate communal tent called the Nyati tent with comfy chairs, a great place to relax at the end of the day with a small library of reference books.

Game drives are with Kicheches experienced guides in 4x4 open topped Landcruisers which give you an unprecedented often close-up view of the incredible Masai Mara wildlife. If you go between July and october wildebeest and zebra are on the move, migrating from the adjoining Serengeti. The wireless connection will be slightly slower than the direct connection. The reason is simple; a Wi-Fi transmits through the air and there's some degradation with this medium. It's like comparing television reception between cable and antennas. cable is obviously faster.

Possibly a huge concern with wireless routers and Wi-Fi is the encryption protocols. In some public Wi-Fi places (such as a local caf), the transmission is encryption free. This means that all of your private data stored in your laptop or PDA will be exposed to anyone in the same vicinity. It's possible that an unscrupulous person could obtain passwords and important personal information.

An older protocol for wireless routers is the wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP). Although it does have a level of encryption, the encryption can be easily compromised. The problem has caused a number of wireless router owners to upgrade to WPA and WPA2 encryption protocols.

With the increasing Wi-Fi hotspots in the neighborhood, Wi-Fi pollution is becoming more apparent. Sometimes stores or organizations will broadcast over the same channel, causing interference and lack of access points. Cities are just noticing this problem as more users are jumping into the wireless realm.

Other devices and equipment can also contribute to the pollution. Studies have shown that Bluetooth devices, cordless phones and microwave ovens all contribute to interference of public wireless transmissions. This is a known problem in high-density areas such as cities with many access points.

Wireless routers do not have a limitless range. As such, the broadcasting radius could be limited to just a 150 to 300 ft. If you want to improve the range, you'd have to purchase Wi-Fi antennas.

The wireless Wi-Fi realm is different to other mediums such as Bluetooth. The power consumption is much greater for devices using Wi-Fi through a wireless router or access point. people who use PDAs or laptops will burn through battery power.

Another problem is that for countries all over the world, you'll find differing spectrum assignments. The lack of consistency has caused problems for internet users traveling from country to country. In some instances, governments may prohibit use of certain channels or require special authorization.

There are many disadvantages of wireless routers and Wi-Fi, but the disadvantages should not necessarily stop a person to use the service. Consider the pros and cons of the wireless realm first before jumping into the world wide web.
